Research Professor of Communications
Professor, Graduate School of Library and Information Science
Primary areas of interest: Politics of contemporary public and commercial space; nature and its relation to mass commercial culture; history and memory on the landscape; the contemporary history of tourism; Southern California and San Diego history and culture.
Professor Davis's most recent book is Spectacular Nature, Corporate Culture and the Sea World Experience (University of California Press, 1997). She is currently working on a biography of the folklorist Gershon Legman. Since Legman's career as a folklore collector, sex researcher, bibliographer, editor, publisher and general scholarly gadfly was long and diverse, this biography project necessarily touches on a wide variety of communication and folkloristic interests.
